Sugar Cookie Bottom for our Sea Salt Caramel Toffee Apple Bars:

Sea Salt Caramel Toffee

This cookie dough spreads out perfectly on a 15-inch rectangular cookie sheet.

So, our first step is to pre-heat the oven to 350° & fit the cookie sheet with parchment paper. If you have a non-stick cookie sheet, you don’t need parchment paper. We just love the ease of clean-up.

** If you are using store-bought cookie dough, it would be best to use 2-30oz. packages to get the best result. Otherwise, the cookie layer is too thin to hold all the goodness of the toppings. #CaramelApple

Now, to make our dough from scratch: Whisk the flour, baking soda, baking powder & salt & set aside. In a separate bowl, whip the SOFTENED butter with the sugar, eggs & vanilla. Then gradually add the flour mixture into the butter mixture until well mixed. It will be quite sticky! So, you know how we stated this “dough spreads out perfectly”? Well, it fits perfectly but the stickiness makes it stick to your hands or utensils. So, we use just a little bit of butter on our hands to distribute it evenly over the entire sheet. Another tip: We distribute several spoonsful of dough along the sheet before trying to spread it. Seriously, it is STICKY!

Once the dough is evenly dispersed on your cookie sheet, bake for about 12-15 Minutes. It should be a Light Golden color – remember you’re going to put it back in the oven again. So, we don’t want to overbake it!

Sea Salt Caramel Toffee Plus APPLES

While the Cookie dough is baking, we chop the apples into the desired size cubes. Another tip: you do Not need to peel your apples. This is totally yummy with the skin on! We prefer Honey-Crisp Apples, but whatever your favorite, it works! Once the apples are cubed, we microwave them for 1 – 2 minutes just to soften them up a bit. We still like a little crunch when eating our bars. But if you want softer apples, just microwave them another minute. Another tip: You can always buy apples that are already sliced & diced.

Now that your Light Golden Cookie Dough is ready to come out of the oven, it’s time to Top it! Sprinkle your apple cubes evenly over the dough. Then add the caramel & toffee bits. Don’t forget to sprinkle the sea salt flakes. (Yes, you can use regular salt. Just be careful not to add too much) If you are not sure about a salty taste, we suggest using Less salt, at least the first time you fix this.

Now, it’s ready to go back into the oven…. It only needs 6 – 8 minutes more.

Caramel Drizzle:

So, you can make the drizzle sauce while your Sea Salt Caramel Toffee Apple Bars are baking. You really don’t “need” the caramel drizzle but……… You should at least try it first before you decide to omit this topping!

Sea Salt Caramel Toffee

Melt the butter in a sauce pan. Lower the heat to low. Add the sugar. Continue to stir until golden brown. Whisk in the heavy cream slooooowwly. Turn up the heat, still stirring until a gentle boil occurs. Then lower the heat & allow to simmer. Stir once in a while. In about 8 minutes you should have the desired thickness. Lastly, add the vanilla & it’s ready to be drizzled on your Apple Bars!! You may feel this is a LOT of drizzle for just one cookie sheet. We usually double our Sea Salt Caramel Toffee Apple Bars recipe & make 2 sheets. So, this drizzle usually covers both. It also makes a GREAT topping over Ice Cream!!!

Also, we could mention: you can take a shortcut here too – just take 1 Cup of Caramel Bits & 1 TBS Heavy Cream. Microwave 30 seconds at a time – stirring between – until completely melted. If it’s too thick, just add a little more heavy cream until you get to the consistency desired.

Once this scrumptious treat comes out of the oven, we hardly let it cool before drizzling the caramel sauce & Eating! It is SO Wonderful served hot. And it’s not too bad when you add a little whipped cream either!

Thanks for Visiting….
