This Mini Croquembouche Recipe is all we need to make everyone happy! And since it’s a Mini – you can make as many plates as you want to share all around the table!
A Croquembouche is simply a pyramid of Cream Puffs with streams of Caramel….. Sounds simple right? It certainly can be very simple…..
The word Croquembouche comes from the French phrase “croque en bouche”. Translated it means “Crunch in the Mouth”.
Our Mini Croquembouche Recipe is created on a salad size plate…..
When we are in a hurry, we just buy the Frozen Mini Cream puffs. But sometimes we actually make homemade Cream Puffs & we can share the recipe with your right here… #Croquembouche
On another note, if you want to be different…. Make your pyramid out of Donut Holes! YUM, Right?!
But in order to create our Mini Croquembouche Recipe
For each plate you need:
- Approximately 19 Cream Puffs
- ½ Bag (5.5 oz) of Caramel Bits
- ¼ Cup Half & Half
Melt the Caramel Bits & Stir in Half & Half until smooth….
Using a small spoon, add a dollop of caramel to the very center of your plate – this will keep your cream puff in place. You can also add dollops of caramel to each cream puff as you are building your pyramid. But it doesn’t take much to get them to stick together. So, a little goes a long way…… We usually build our pyramid with a count of 8 on the bottom, 7 for the next layer, then 3 & 1. Of course, this may need to change depending on the size of the cream puffs. Lastly, drizzle the caramel sauce over your entire pyramid. You can go as light or as heavy as you wish….. #FrenchPastry
You can also decorate your Mini Croquembouche Recipe with other toppings….
If you see fit… you could sprinkle Powdered Sugar, rainbow Sprinkles, Nuts …..Or, instead of Carmel, drizzle White or Dark Chocolates – or even a combination of any toppings…
As we said, You can also make your very own Homemade Cream Puffs. We’ve got the recipe right here…..
If you prefer to forego Caramel Sauce & wish to use Chocolate Sauce or even White Chocolate Sauce…. The same measurements would apply…
¼ Cup Half & Half to 5.5 oz or about 2/3 Cup Chips….. Melt, whip & drizzle…..
If you want to know how to make Homemade Caramel Sauce, Here you go…..
- 1/4 Cup Water
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 6 tablespoons butter (cut into cubes)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Combine Water & Sugar in a pan. Slowly warm the saucepan up to medium heat, gently stirring until sugar is melted (around 3 minutes). Continuing with Medium heat, allow to bubble – you may gently stir until sugar is completely dissolved. Then discontinue stirring, instead, swirl the pot & brush down the sides of the pot. This will prevent crystallization. Your Homemade Caramel Sauce will start to thicken & become a beautiful honey color. But this takes TIME (around 9 minutes or so). So, continue to swirl & brush down the sides of the pot… You do NOT want the pot to sit idly on the stovetop or it will Burn Your Sauce!
Now that the sauce is thickening, gently add the butter & whip until completely combined. Continue whipping because this sauce will start to bubble quickly! (Adding the butter in smaller increments helps it absorb faster & more evenly.)
Now, remove the pot from all heat sources & gently pour in the cream while whisking. Don’t stop stirring until the mixture is completely smooth… Add in vanilla. Allow cooling (for about 10 minutes) BEFORE you transfer into another container. A Glass container is best for storage & re-heating …….
