Creamy Bourbon Sauce Recipe

But before we share our Creamy Bourbon Sauce Recipe with you, we have a few questions for you…….. Did you know there is an American Bourbon Association? Did you also know that Bourbon is a Whiskey? But Not All Whiskeys are Bourbon? And furthermore, Bourbon crafters have to follow regulations? Like they must use NEW charred oak barrels. And NO artificial coloring or flavoring is allowed!

And Bourbon barrels are most often stored on their sides! This allows Air Flow while that yummy elixir is aging …. Of course, Bourbon must ONLY be made with at LEAST 51% corn. As you may know, Corn creates that sweet flavor! Although, other grains may be added, like barley, wheat or rye, Corn carries the entire recipe! 

Now, our favorite is a “Straight” Bourbon Whiskey!! This very delicious & distinctive liquor is aged in that NEW Charred Oak Barrel for at LEAST 2 years!! But we are willing to wait!!

Creamy Bourbon Sauce Recipe

Now on to our Creamy Bourbon Sauce Recipe:

  • 2 Teas. Arrowroot powder or Cornstarch
  • 3 Teas. Water
  • 2/3 Cup Bourbon
  • 1 Qt. Heavy Whipping Cream
  • ½ Cup Sugar
  • ¼ Cup Butter
  • 1 Teas. Vanilla

In a small bowl, mix your Arrowroot or Cornstarch with the 3 teas. of water & set aside. This way your slurry is ready when needed……..

In a large saucepan, allow the butter to melt over medium heat. When it starts to “golden”, add in the sugar, Constantly whisking! When it is a deeper golden brown, Lower the Heat.

The Butter & Sugar mixture should be bubbling. BUT NOT TOO bubbly! If you need to, remove from heat completely.  

Next, add in the heavy whipping cream & return to a LOW heat. Allow the sauce to heat up, Constantly whisking…… You should see the mixture start to gently “roll”.

Vanilla in our Creamy Bourbon Sauce

Once it’s rolling, either remove from the heat completely or on VERY LOW Heat once more & add in the vanilla & bourbon. Lastly & very slowly add in your slurry a little bit at a time. When your Creamy Bourbon Sauce reaches the desired thickness, it’s READY!!

(You don’t have to use all the slurry if you desire a thinner sauce.)

** One small note: You don’t want your sauce to BOIL after adding in the Vanilla & Bourbon…… Because boiling affects the taste & potency of both the Vanilla & Bourbon…… And personally, when adding in an ambrosial & exquisite flavor, or combination of flavors…….  I want the FULL effect! #Desserts

It is also bottled at 100% Proof! And remember, there is NO artificial coloring or flavors allowed!

Now pour a couple of fingers worth into your appropriate glass. (BTW….. No Need to Chill or Refrigerate Bourbon.)

Swirl this delicious liquid around the glass & allow it to coat the sides. Because you’ve chosen an appropriate glass, the aromas are concentrated…. Now, gently waft the glass under your nose… What do you smell? And now, take a small sip, let it go down slow….. Then, take another sip, a little bigger this time. But let this sip swirl around your mouth. What do you taste? Finally, swallow then exhale through your mouth….

You should experience the intensity of many aromas & flavors such as oak, vanilla, honey, and even fruit, & spices….. Of course, some flavors are more complex. And some aromas are more subtle…. But the Best Bourbon is Smooth & highly Drinkable all by itself!!
