Whether you are drinking & dining alone or with guests, you should Always savor your Fine Wine in the proper manner! #Vino
If you are pouring for a guest, you should always pour the bottle in an inclined position so your guest can get a gander at the bottle! Pour from their Left side so they can easily read the label! This is the Easiest way to start a conversation about your new business!
A White Wine can be in a narrow glass, but a red needs more room to BREATHE! White wines are lighter & more delicate, while reds are bolder & heavier. The red needs more oxygen to release its aroma, not to mention needing the room to Swirl! Always leave room in the glass for both the swirl & the oxygen, no matter whether white or red!
Use All Your Senses…
Now, it’s time to Taste your Wine with All your Senses! First, hold the glass by the stem or base. You don’t want your heat to affect the temperature of this marvelous libation. Then, Look at your wine. Look straight into the glass. Hold it up to the light, angle the glass. You will see darker to lighter shadings of color from the center to the edge.
Now, set your glass gently on the table & Swirl the glass to aerate the wine. Anywhere from 10 – 20 seconds will allow oxygen to penetrate the liquid molecules! This action releases excellent Aromas! Next, stick your sniffer into the glass as far as you are comfortable. The distance between your nose & the liquid will change what you smell. So, take a whiff at different proximity. Do you smell the differences? What do you smell? Towards the top, you will smell more fruits & flowers, whereas, the further your nose goes, the bolder or richer the aroma. So, Stop & appreciate the bouquet before taking the next step….
Then, it is time to Sip & Savor! Take a small sip & let it slide across your tongue. Many connoisseurs will close their eyes so distractions do not interfere! Many also will gently slurp while tasting. This action allows in aeration to further release aroma & flavor!
